A Living Legend….
Leaves A Legacy Of Love
*** Ed Cline***
Dedicated to: Bertha & Family
Poem by: Dr. Roslyn Vaughn

Edward Cline…A Man Of:
Substance, Character and Grace
Was no ways tired
As he ran this Race -
Many a young man
Couldn’t keep up the Pace

He was a true soldier
In the army of the Lord
He was in the Air Force Too
Fighting for what was right,
What was best for kids, &
What was just the best thing to Do

He lived and breathed education
In HISD- for over 32 Years
Elevating himself to Asst. Superintendent
Revered by all his colleagues and Peers

And as for the Houston Area
Alliance Of  Black School Educators…
Through my eyes –
He ‘WAS’ the HAABSE Organization
Despite his efforts to
Pass it down to the younger Generation

He taught, mentored, challenged
And mostly-- he Inspired
He believed in showcasing your talents
Including networking
To help you get Hired

You needed to be ready in the spur
Of a moment-- ‘cause he’d call on you
To do just about Anything
Deliver a prayer, speech, poem,  ‘song’ –
Even if you couldn’t Sing

He was a devoted and loving father ‘of’ 3
But a father ‘to’ thousands over the Decades
Living his life as an example,
In God’s Image –
Righteous & wonderfully Made

--He never met a stranger--
He walked amongst the most influential,
Prestigious, politicians, and dignitaries
On any given Day
Yet he made the smallest – of us
Feel like Giants
By something he’d do or Say

And although you may have thought
That Ed Cline and his great friend, Cam Wells
Were joined at the Hip
(I still think they should make Little Action Figures
Of them both)- That would be a big Hit)

But seriously, his true love
Was Bertha – wife of 55 years
Working together, traveling together,
Praying togetherStaying Together

Loving each other – Trusting each other
Caring for each other, Sharing with each other-
They made it seem so Easy --when in Reality
It was Simply --what God intended – Love to Be

Although Ed was a loving husband, father,
Grandfather, brother, mentor, loved one &Friend
Hunter, author, cook, choir member,
Sunday School Teacher- the list doesn’t End
First & foremost, he was a Christian

Ed witnessed that he was
‘Blessed and Highly Favored’
To everyone he’d Meet
When asked, “How are you doing?”
He’d answer quite Succinctly
“I cannot lie…The Lord - Is With Me”
And if you just listen close enough
You can hear the Lord say-just as Succinctly
“Now, In My House- Ed Is With Me”

But he leaves one last lesson behind
And we need to get it Right
And that is…
It can happen in the twinkling of an eye-
He can come as a Thief in the Night
So we need to stay prayed up –
Get our house in order… & like Ed,
Live a Purpose Driven Life

So… As the Golden Gates of Glory Swing Open
And the Angels rejoice from Above –
A LIVING LEGEND…
LEAVES A LEGACY OF LOVE!!!
